To wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen
Salty old queen of the sea

– Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen by Danny Kaye

Not going to lie, I’d never heard of that song before in my life. That was until I informed my mum I’d be visiting Copenhagen earlier this year. She responded with that song lyric, and in all honesty, I started to worry about her sanity!

I’m happy to report, the song is thoroughly accurate and not just a case of artistic license gone mad. Copenhagen is truly wonderful.

It’s one of those cities I could happily move to in a heartbeat. The people are oh-so-friendly (and impeccably dressed!), the city is clean and easy to get about, and best of all the food is TO DIE FOR!

My one regret is that we didn’t have longer to spend there. But I sincerely did my best to jam as much food as my poor body could handle into those two days! Heroic, I know.

For any of you out there looking to take a little jaunt over to the home of Hans Christian Andersen, here are some of the vegan eats I loved.

42Raw

Pilestræde 32, 1112 København, Denmark

Oh, was this place delightful! We were umming and ahhing over where to eat breakfast for what seemed like forever, but we eventually settled on 42Raw after some serious Instagram scrolling.

We did not regret. I mean, would you look at those pancakes!

Souls

Melchiors Pl. 3, 2100 København Ø, Denmark

This was the number one place on my list of restaurants to visit in Copenhagen. Not even the 3 mile walk to get there could deter me!

Since the sun was shining, we decided to make a bit of an adventure out of it, walking to the restaurant via the lovely Rosenborg Castle and The King’s Garden. But if time isn’t on your side, there are plenty of public transport options – or simply grab a hire bike and get peddling!

After such a huge walk, I absolutely devoured the Viking Salad (and most of my boyfriend’s sweet potato fries!). The “meat” balls and hummus were just perfection… and who doesn’t love pickled onions!

My boyfriend went for the BBQ Seitan Burger… look at that green bun! It was so wacky, but oh my gosh, I had just the tiniest bit of envy. I wanted all of the food!

døp

Købmagergade 50, 1119 København, Denmark

While Souls might have been top of my restaurant list – døp was top of my “grab-it-and-go” food list! Ever since visiting Iceland years ago, I’ve been obsessed with scandi-style hot dogs and crispy onions – let me just say døp lived up to those expectations.

Now, there are plenty of hot dog stands in Copenhagen, but only døp have vegan options available. So, when you get there, make a bee-line for the Rundetaarn – do the obligatory tourist thing, and then treat yourself to a vegan hot dog from døp located just outside.

Or, if you are busy shopping, you’ll find another døp van just outside the & Other Stories store on Amagertorv. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on these hot dogs (we managed to squeeze in two hot dogs while we were there – not bad for a 36 hour trip!).

The Coffee Collective

Are you a coffee fiend like me? If so, you won’t want to miss dropping into The Coffee Collective while in Copenhagen. There are a few locations around central Copenhagen so you’re sure to find one convenient for you.

I’m still trying to replicate that coffee experience with some Coffee Collective beans at home – while delicious, I haven’t quite nailed it, sadly. Might be time to head back to Copenhagen, methinks!

Have you been to Copenhagen? Let me know some of your favorite eats in the comments!
